ESASO

The European School for Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology (ESASO) offers training to ophthalmologists in Europe and around the world. It was established in 2008 with the aim of offering post-graduate education to ophthalmologists and educational opportunities that cannot be found elsewhere in Europe.

ESASO’s activities have increased over the years.

ESASO’s successful launch in Lugano led to the concept of ESASO Asia, where education is conceptualised and tailored for the Asian ophthalmologists.

ESASO established its headquarters on the second floor of Ospedale Regionale di Lugano, where it is a new and innovative didactic centre: it contains fully equipped wet lab and dry lab rooms, allowing students to practice surgery in all ophthalmology fields and improve their surgical skills.

ESASO aims at improving the clinical and surgical practice of specialists in ophthalmology and residents by helping them develop and enhance their professional skills. Through the promotion of training courses, fellowship opportunities and other courses ESASO improves scientific knowledge within the ophthalmic community, hence improving outcomes for all patients with eye conditions worldwide.

Goal of wetlab

to identify the surgical indications and to train the participant to face the surgical pathologies of simple or high complexity in a correct and rational manner.

To help the surgeon to highlight the essential elements to read the specific characteristics of a surgical pathology, to choose the most suitable surgical approach, to foresee and face possible difficulties and complications and to manage the response to treatment.

Also beginners, thanks to a realistic operating theatre, can reproduce every phase of surgery in an extremely realistic way, to improve their surgical ability.
